MCP server for AI models
AI assistants can run every ElevatorCalc calculator directly. The server speaks the Model Context Protocol over Streamable HTTP, offers one tool per calculator, and calls the same functions as these pages, so the numbers match.

Most MCP clients accept a remote server entry like this:
{
"mcpServers": {
"elevatorcalc": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://elevatorcalc.com/api/mcp"
}
}
}Or try it by hand:
curl -s https://elevatorcalc.com/api/mcp \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"initialize","params":{"protocolVersion":"2025-06-18","capabilities":{},"clientInfo":{"name":"example","version":"1"}}}'curl -s https://elevatorcalc.com/api/mcp \
-H 'Content-Type: application/json' \
-H 'Accept: application/json, text/event-stream' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":2,"method":"tools/call","params":{"name":"elevator_travel_time","arguments":{"travel":30,"ratedSpeed":2.5}}}'How it behaves
- Stateless: every POST carries one JSON-RPC message and gets one JSON reply. There are no sessions and no server-sent stream.
- The application code does not store or log inputs or results. Infrastructure retention is not verified.
- Numeric inputs are SI: millimetres, metres, m/s, kilograms. Each output is in the unit its tool declares: SI for most, with US companion fields declared in their own units (areaFt2 and clearFloorAreaFt2 in square feet, ratedLoadLb in pounds). The hoistway, pit and escalator tools take a units input (si by default, or us) that picks which printed figure of each dual-unit ASME limit the checks use. Each tool's description lists its inputs with units, ranges and defaults, and names the clause and edition it rests on.
- An input out of range comes back as a tool error saying which input and what range, and nothing is calculated. An unknown tool name is a protocol error.
- Every result carries the disclaimer: not engineering advice; a licensed professional checks every result.

Other machine-readable files
- /llms.txt: what the site is and where everything lives.
- /llms-full.txt: every calculator's inputs, outputs, formulas, method and clause in plain text.
- /api/calculators.json: the same catalogue as JSON, with an input schema for each calculator.
