Area and volume converter

Convert area and volume units from one value and its input unit, with every compatible unit shown together.

Inputs

Enter a finite number in the input unit chosen below. The value is taken to 15 significant digits before use.
The value uses this unit. Every compatible output unit is shown together, with its unit in the result text.

Working

  1. Convert to m²
    xout=xinfinfoutx_{out} = x_{in}\frac{f_{in}}{f_{out}}
    1 ft² × 0.09290304 ÷ 1
    = 0.09290304 m²
  2. Convert to cm²
    xout=xinfinfoutx_{out} = x_{in}\frac{f_{in}}{f_{out}}
    1 ft² × 0.09290304 ÷ 0.0001
    = 929.0304 cm²
  3. Convert to in²
    xout=xinfinfoutx_{out} = x_{in}\frac{f_{in}}{f_{out}}
    1 ft² × 0.09290304 ÷ 0.00064516
    = 144 in²
  4. Convert to ft²
    xout=xinfinfoutx_{out} = x_{in}\frac{f_{in}}{f_{out}}
    1 ft² × 0.09290304 ÷ 0.09290304
    = 1 ft²

Working is shown in the units each formula is written in; the result figures above follow the unit switch. A numeric input is taken to 15 significant digits before it is used (1033.2293579541322 kg is used as 1033.22935795413 kg); every echo of it shows that value, and a computed figure substituted into the working is quoted to 15 significant digits as well.

Notes

  • Converts units only; this is not a code reading. Results retain 13 significant digits; the last digit can reflect floating-point arithmetic.
  • Area and volume are different dimensions. This page does not infer a depth or convert area into volume.

Method

Exact unit arithmetic

m^2 is the base. cm^2 = (10^-2)^2 m^2; in^2 = 0.0254^2 m^2; ft^2 = 0.3048^2 m^2.

m^3 is the base. cm^3 = (10^-2)^3 m^3; L = (10^-1)^3 m^3; in^3 = 0.0254^3 m^3; ft^3 = 0.3048^3 m^3; US gal = 231 in^3.

How to read the result

Choose the unit of the entered value. Multiply by its exact SI factor, then divide by each output unit factor. Temperature uses its defining affine equations instead. Unit-bearing results retain 13 significant digits; no rounded table entry is used in the computation.

Area and volume are separate dimensions. Choose an area unit for area results or a volume unit for volume results. No depth is assumed.

Limits and sources

Converts units only; this is not a code reading. No code-derived number or engineering limit is used. Not engineering advice. Have a licensed professional check every result.

Factors come from exact unit definitions. Source URLs were tried by plain GET on 2026-10-13 and returned HTTP 403, so comparison with the NIST printed rows remains unverified. The exact definitions and derivation are recorded in this tool's spec.

Formulas

Convert through the SI base unit

output = input × factor(input unit) / factor(output unit)

xout=xinfin/foutx_{out} = x_{in} f_{in}/f_{out}
