About ElevatorCalc
ElevatorCalc is a set of free elevator and escalator calculators and unit converters for planning. Each one shows its working and its sources, with the code clause and edition wherever a code applies.
What it does
There are 20 calculators, from hoistway size and rated load to traffic, escalator capacity and rope safety factor. The elevator calculators apply ASME A17.1/CSA B44, EN 81-20 and the 2010 ADA Standards, and the escalator calculators apply ASME A17.1/CSA B44 and EN 115-1. Where no code governs, as for travel time, traffic and counterweight, the calculator names the engineering method it uses instead. The Converters category adds length, tape fractions, mass and force, pressure, temperature, torque, speed, flow, area and volume, and power. These pages convert units only and are not a code reading; they use exact unit definitions.
The site also has a manuals library that links to each publisher's own copy, articles on planning questions, and an MCP server so AI assistants can run the same calculators.
Free to use
Every calculator is free. There is no account and no sign-up.
Results are estimates for planning, not engineering advice. Have a licensed professional check every result. The terms of use explain the limits, and the privacy page explains what the site collects.
